An Introduction to Fulcrum
It may be a glib way to express it, but historically, men have enjoyed thousands of years of ‘political correctness.’ And the gains which women have made – particularly in the 20th Century – now seem under attack once more.
The result , in recent years , is life for women becoming harder because of what seems a backlash against female equality and because of euro-wide austerity measures; women being amongst those hit hardest.

And, coupled with statistics on ever-prevalent violence against women, these are humanitarian and ethical issues.
Fulcrum will campaign, provide support and undertake and commission research both as an additional voice and to highlight topics which might otherwise be neglected.
One such campaign is to include women within hate crime legislation and, in 2009, I won a small grant from lottery funding for a local project in relation to this.
It seems ironic, to say the least , that women are excluded from hate crime legislation when they probably experience it more than any other group – both in terms of intent (women perceived as fair game – from verbal abuse and insults to actual violence) and statistical demographics; women constitute close to if not more than 50% of the population.
The inclusion of women within hate crime legislation would be a significant milestone. It is now all but socially unacceptable to express racist attitudes, and hate crime legislation would go some way to this also becoming the case with sexism and misogyny.

An MP has described as ‘bigots’ women who campaign for women’s rights. There have been books published: one entitled ‘The Woman Racket’, asserting, as far as I can make out, that it is women who now hold power, and that ‘discrimination’ has been the racket whereby they continue to unfairly hold sway (!) Another book is entitled ‘The Second Sexism; Discrimination against Men and Boys’. The problem is, by simply ignoring such contentions – no matter how ill-founded they may be – they begin to gain ground, which is the case today.
Members can come to Fulcrum for support for all aspects and at all stages of their lives.
A members-only website provides information on a range of topics and interviews across a spectrum, from art to science, and from men and women, campaigns and research, local – the East Midlands – and national. The website also gives a space for members to communicate on such matters without being crowded out by trolling, bullying and abuse.
Fulcrum is mutal – members will find items of interest and where and how to access support. With their membership fee,joiners will fund, and be given the opportunity to participate in, campaigning on topics of interest.
